I grew up in the Nashville, TN area. After living for about 10 years in Texas and Connecticut, I’ve been back for 15 years. I preach with the Acklen Avenue Church of Christ and serve as Affiliate Faculty at Lipscomb University. I studied at Abilene Christian University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Fuller Theological Seminary.

The Christian faith has always been the most stable part of my life. Even as my questions exceed my answers, I’m as drawn to Jesus as I’ve ever been. Despite the many flaws of the modern church, I met Jesus through her. Therefore, I will not turn my back on her, even as I mourn her sin (including my own) and work for her renewal. I maintain a radical optimism about local, ordinary churches. I spend a lot of time reading, conversing, and reflecting on the ways faith intersects with the political, social, and scientific conversations of our day.

I’ve been married for 20 years, and we’re blessed with 3 daughters, ages 14, 10, and 8. My wife teaches in the College of Medicine at Belmont University. Twice, we’ve twice taken college students to Italy to study “Faith and Science”, specifically around the Galileo story. We love to take walks around our Crieve Hall neighborhood, Radnor Lake, and Ellington Agricultural Center. My hobbies include running, coffee, reading, podcasts, and following the Boston Red Sox and Tennessee Titans.
